Choosing your child's first dance class

Parents usually arrive with one question: which class should we start with? The honest answer is that at three or four, the style matters far less than the room. What you want is a class where your child is happy to walk in without you, where the teacher knows their name by week two, and where nothing is rushed.

That said, ballet is a good default. It builds the posture, coordination and listening habits that every other style borrows from later — and a child who has done a year of ballet will pick up tap or modern jazz much faster than one who hasn't.

If your child is bursting with energy rather than concentration, our Mini Movers class is often the better first step. It covers the same fundamentals through games and short routines, and plenty of dancers move across to graded ballet after a term.

Book a trial in whichever appeals. There is no commitment, and we would far rather move a dancer into a class that suits them than have them sit through one that doesn't.
