CLASSES

Below is some information about the different styles of classes we run. Your child may already have an idea what they want to try, but if they or you are not sure, please don’t hesitate to contact us for further information and advice.  We also offer free trial classes to help you and your child decide more easily.

BALLET

Our Ballet classes follow the IDTA syllabus, giving Moondancers the opportunity to take examinations from Preparatory and up through the grades as and when they are considered to be ready by the Principal. All pupils who wish to take exams (it is not compulsory) will be guided and prepared with the utmost attention to technical detail and artistry in order to achieve their own personal best.

The IDTA describes Ballet as follows:

“Ballet for pleasure or for the more serious-minded, this classical style has something to offer everyone. Ballet dates back to the 17th century and the conventional steps, grace and fluidity of movement are still found in Ballet today. Choreographers have been influenced by composers through the ages.

Ballet has a technique which is the foundation of all dance.”

TAP

Our Tap classes follow the IDTA syllabus, giving Moondancers the opportunity to take examinations from Preparatory and up through the grades as and when they are considered to be ready by the Principal. All pupils who wish to take exams (it is not compulsory) will be guided and prepared with the utmost attention to technical detail and artistry in order to achieve their own personal best.

The IDTA (click here to find out more) describes Tap as follows:

“Tap is rhythm – rhythm is tap. Its origins are many and varied. Americans claim its origin dates from the African Jazz age. The Irish stake their claim to the Jigs and Step Dancing. The English relate back to northern Clog Dancers but whichever one chooses to believe, Tap is as popular today as it was in the heyday of the great Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly musicals.”

MODERN JAZZ

At Moondance Studio, we follow the IDTA syllabus. Exams start at Preparatory level for Moondancers who are considered to be ready by the Principal. All pupils who wish to take exams (it is not compulsory) will be guided and prepared with the utmost attention to technical detail and artistry in order to achieve their own personal best.

The IDTA (click here to find out more) describes Modern Jazz as follows:

“Modern Jazz is fun. One minute you may be dancing to the rhythm of a drum, the next to a funky jazz style. You may explore contrast between expansion and relaxation or learn to isolate in a slick stylish mood. Whatever the atmosphere of the class, it will be a wonderful opportunity to react and interact with other members and really dance to express your feelings.”

LYRICAL

Lyrical dance uses elements of Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary disciplines to create a flowing and dynamic style. Lyrical choreography uses music with lyrics to inspire the movements of the dancer, in order to portray the emotion and story of the song. It is a beautiful style of dance to perform and to watch, as the individuality and expression encouraged brings out the uniqueness and personality of each dancer.

ACROBATICS

‘Acro’ is a seamless blend of dance and acrobatics, with an emphasis on artistry and fluidity from skill to skill. Flexibility, strength, balance, limbering, tumbling and lifts are beautifully fused to create this dynamic and popular style of dance. Acro can be set to any type of music, and performed as a solo, duo, trio or troupe with fellow Moondancers.

AERIAL

Combining athleticism and creative expression, aerial dance provides a full body work out.

While using low-hanging trapeze, aerial silks and aerial slings, Moondancers can experience the grace and beauty of this art form, whilst having fun and building strength. Aerial allows pupils to explore a sense of freedom through suspending and supporting the body, at times feeling almost like flying! Developing aerial skills also instils the value of teamwork, cooperation, trust, controlled risk-taking and creative thinking – all valuable life skills.
